Folks also bid on a fantastic selection of items in a silent auction. Special thanks to this year's dance committee for their efforts in arranging the whole affair. Check out some photos from Super Saturday at Coronation.
March 10, 2011-- Just a reminder that on Super Saturday (March 19) pre-regsitration will be available from 8am-2pm. The more pre-registrations the better as it helps the association plan for the upcoming season. There is also a large discount if fees if you register early so bring your chequebooks and sign up now so you can secure a spot for next year. Registration forms will be on hand at the rink but you can also download them on the registration page of this website.
March 9, 2011--The CMHA held its AGM last night to a packed house with very productive results. We filled three of four positions that were open on the executive but we are still looking for someone to step up and take on the role as registrar. The sooner this position is filled the better since it is so important to have this position in place as soon as possible. If you step up before Super Saturday you can get pointers from long-time registrar Mary Ellen Opie who will be working the pre-registration desk at the arena (which will be open from 8am-2pm). If anyone wants to help out the association in this important role please contact John Paxton at johnjpaxton@gmail.com
March 7, 2011-- Just a reminder to all that our Annual General Meeting is this Tuesday, March 8 at 7pm in the community room at Coronation Arena. Anyone is welcome to attend and we are hoping for a strong turnout of as many people as possible to offer their valuable input. There will also be a representative from the City of Hamilton there to discuss the upgrades to the arena and pool with a quick Q&A to follow.
SUPER SATURDAY is coming up fast! This year's Super Saturday is March 19, 2011 which means there are only a couple of weeks of hockey left.
We are looking for volunteers for Super Saturday to help out with the BBQ, selling tickets, coffee, set-up and clean-up, etc. Please contact Frances Agro for details at francesagro@yahoo.ca
We will also be accepting registrations at Pre-Registration prices throughout the day on Super Saturday March 19th. It's a great day for watching some great hockey, enjoying some food and enjoying the company of the Coronation family which is what the CMHA is all about.
Here is the schedule of games for the day:
Feb.21, 2011--
AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL CMHA MEMBERS
Re: The Future of House League Hockey in Hamilton
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience this season during our relocation to Eastwood and our subsequent return home to Coronation arena. I believe our moves went as well as we had hoped as we tried to minimize the impact on our programs. As you are aware we did need to make some changes to regularly scheduled days in some divisions and we decided to keep the schedules intact when we moved back to Coronation. This was done to lessen the impact on families that adjusted their other schedules around the hockey schedule at the beginning of the year. As things return to normal, we begin our play-offs and the season begins to wind down, the members of our executive have already started the planning for the next season. Our Annual General Meeting is fast approaching and along with several positions that need to be filled within our association there will be an important item on the agenda that will affect the future of House League hockey within the City of Hamilton. The Hamilton Minor Hockey Council, in their effort to revive diminishing hockey registration across the city, has been searching for a solution to offset this predicament. They have suggested several ideas which include, among other things, central registration, centres of excellence and amalgamating associations. Due to the pressure that the HMHC has put on the Recreational House Leagues to come up with a “recommendation”, a proposal was tabled at a recent RHL meeting. This proposal would see changes that will eliminate our pre-Novice divisions and adversely affect our community based organization. The changes would remove Hockey School and Tyke from CMHA and have all lower city pre-Novice play out of Scott Park as of the 2012-13 season. This would likely be the first step in more changes to come and Novice would surely follow in the next year and then Atom and so on up the line. It is now more important than ever for us to have a strong voice as an organization and we need to start at our own AGM. I would like to ask for your input on these issues and help direct your council on how you want to be represented at the RHL and HMHC tables. You can do this by attending our AGM on March 8th at 7pm in the Community Room at the rink. Please take a second to fill out the form that your coach will pass around. I would like to get an idea of the number of people that we can expect at our AGM so we can arrange proper seating. As well, I’m asking for an email address to keep your family informed on these issues moving forward. (Your email address will not be passed on to any outside interests).
Thank you,
John Paxton, President Coronation Minor Hockey Association

Jan.29/2011--UPDATE ON THE RETURN TO CORONATION.
Ice is being made at Coronation right now and that means that everything is on track for our return on February 3....just in time to host the teams from Tonawanda this coming Saturday. There is one slight wrinkle to our return and that affects the Bantam House League Monday night schedule only. All practices that were 6pm are now at 7pm, and 7pm times get bumped to 8pm. Please see the Bantam House League schedule on this website.
WE'RE GOING HOME!
From the President:
The work at Coronation arena is close to completion and we have been given a return date of Thursday February 3rd. This is great news for us and as much as we look forward to returning home I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Eastwood arena staff for making us feel at home during our temporary stay. The existing days and times will remain in affect on our schedule with the exception of Monday evenings. Starting Monday February 7th our existing hours will move ahead 1 hour (i.e. 5pm, 6pm & 7pm hours will be moved to 6pm, 7pm & 8pm) the schedule will be changed accordingly and those affected groups will be informed of the changes. 11/26/2010-Coronation Arena Update
With the original target date (for returning to the arena) of December 15th fast approaching, the work on the ice making equipment, the pool and the exterior structures are progressing well. As you can see from the recent photos, things are beginning to take shape. However, we have recently had a good news/bad news message from the City. The bad news is that the return date has been moved to January 30th. The good news is the reasoning behind this delay; they have been able to secure the funding to allow them to go ahead with the interior work to the arena. Based on the scope of work listed below it looks like the delay in our return will be well worth the wait.
- New sliding front door
- New ceiling in front lobby and vestibule
- New lighting in lobby, vestibule and above rink (energy efficient)
- New low-E ceiling above arena floor/lower fan cages
- New rubberized flooring throughout lobby with baseboards
- High pressure wash of beams and girders above ice surface
- Painting of lobby, beams and girders
- New fixtures, tile and flooring in lobby washrooms
- New score board
Cross our fingers and hope there is no further delay. In the meantime we will carry-on at Eastwood, with thanks to the City Staff at the arena for making us feel welcome in our temporary home rink.
11/21/2010-Work is progressing at Coronation. Have a look at some of the latest construction. Click on a pic for a larger view.

11/18/2010-The schedules to the end of the year and are now available on this site (see schedules at left). For those having issues with their browsers displaying the schedules, a PDF download of the schedule is also available at the top of each page.
11/15/20010-Thanks to Joe and Tricia Camillo and their team from Niko Apparel for brining their selection of Cornonation spirit wear and techincal apparel to Eastwood this past weekend for their annual sale. The association appreciates this annual fundraising effort.
Say Cheese! At the end of November and beginning of December it's time for team photos. Please refer to the schedule here and download an order form so that you can have it filled out and make the whole affair go more smoothly. Thanks.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: They are working day and night at Coronation to get the new pool facility ready.Once the major work on this is done and the area is no longer deemed a construction site, we can use the rink. This photo was taken at 11:30pm Monday night and shows them still at work laying concrete.

Message
from the President:
HOCKEY
AS USUAL FOR THE 2010-11 SEASON
This note is intended
to clear up some incorrect information and/or rumours that have been floating
around our community. Rest assured that Coronation Minor Hockey
will be fully operational for the 2010-2011 hockey season. All
of our programs that we have offered in the past will be available this
season. The only change is that our season will, temporarily,
be relocated to Eastwood. We have been informed by the City that the relocation
could be as short as 2 weeks and at the most 10 weeks. Our time slots
will stay relatively the same with the exception of a few weeknight hours
being moved around. This relocation is to allow the City to complete some
much needed upgrades to our cooling system in the arena in conjunction
with a new pool. As soon as the work on the compressors is completed,
which will allow the ice to be installed, we can return to our arena.
In the meantime please spread the word that it is “business as usual”
with Coronation Minor Hockey Association. Please return to the website
for any updates on this situation as we will keep you posted of any changes.
Please feel free to e-mail me should you have any questions
regarding this or any other concerns.
Thank You,
John Paxton
